The DeSoto Eagles bulldozed their way into the playoffs last Friday night with their 7th blowout win of the year, beating  Duncanville 41-17.  Their talent rich program has been a perennial contender for quite some time and are no stranger to making the playoffs; however, they’ve yet to win a Texas state championship, but this year feels different.  2016 feels like it’s going to be the year of the Eagle.

This year’s team is led by 64 seniors including quarterback Shawn Robinson and wide receiver KD Nixon, who aren’t just some of the best offensive weapons in the state of Texas – but in the entire country.  They’ve outscored their opponents 372 – 139 and only played in one truly close game all year against Midland, winning  49-43.

Shawn Robinson’s Twitter profile pretty much paints the picture perfectly, “My O-line is better than yours.” he writes – a proclamation of indisputable depth across the roster that makes this year’s squad particularly troublesome to anyone who stands in their way.

The teams on DeSoto’s schedule were faced with a daunting task.  Most teams don’t have the speed to keep up with KD Nixon and Shawn Robinson, but even the ones that do – won’t be strong enough to deal with LSU commit “Big Ed” Ingram.

DeSoto is too deep and too senior for Allen to win in a head on collision, but then again – that’s just my opinion.  Hopefully, we’ll get to see them face-off and settle this debate once and for all.

Edward “Big Ed” Ingram

We had a chance to interview Big Ed earlier this season and he shared this picture with us explaining, “This is a gift to one of our coaches but it’s gonna look nice to have my own state championship ring by the end of the season.”

Ingram’s bold prediction may seem overly confident to some, but it’s not unfounded considering the ravenous nature in which they’ve pounced on their prey throughout the 2016 season.

If the last two months are any indication of things to come – the DeSoto Eagles will be taking home it’s first state title in it’s school’s history.

Here’s a snippet of our brief chat with Big Ed earlier this month

Q: WHO’S YOUR BIGGEST INFLUENCE WHEN IT COMES TO FOOTBALL?

A: “EVEN WASHINGTON, A DESOTO/LSU ALUM.  HE MENTORED THE O-LINE LAST YEAR AND SHARED A LOT OF HIS KNOWLEDGE. JUST THE FACT THAT HE CAME FROM MY HIGH SCHOOL (DESOTO) AND WENT TO THE COLLEGE I’M GOING TO (LSU) IS AWESOME.”

Q: IF YOU COULD PLAY FOR ANY NFL TEAM, WHICH ONE WOULD YOU PLAY FOR?

A: BALTIMORE RAVENS

Q: COULD YOUR DESOTO EAGLES TEAM BEAT BISHOP GORMAN?

A: “WE TAKE THE SEASON ONE GAME AT A TIME SO I’VE NEVER REALLY THOUGHT ABOUT BISHOP GORMAN BEFORE, BUT WE HAVE SOME OF THE BEST COACHES AND PLAYERS IN THE ENTIRE COUNTRY SO I KNOW IT WOULD BE A HARD FOUGHT BATTLE NO MATTER WHAT.”
