High hopes for homegrown Hoosier

Bloomington, IN — The Hoosiers are building a formidable football team under the noses of neighboring states.  And while most teams in The Big 10 are consumed with trying to figure out how to compete with the perennial powerhouses – Indiana is scooping up talent worthy of top 10 teams.  That’s not my opinion, that’s just a fact.

Bryant Fitzgerald, the #1 ATH in Indiana received multiple offers from top tier programs, including West Virginia – who was in the top 10 until their loss to OK State last weekend.  By every measure, the Mountaineers are a better football program, but Fitzgerald chose the Hoosiers.  And just to get an understanding of the level of talent he’s bringing to Bloomington I suggest you take a moment to watch his highlights.

If commitments like this are any indication of things to come in Indiana, don’t be surprised if the Hoosiers start giving teams like Michigan and Ohio State a run for their money.  Because it’s talent like Bryant’s that can take a 500 team and make them a 10 win team.  He can’t do it alone, but he won’t have to because talent follows talent and the same way Lamar Jackson is making players consider Louisville, Bryant Fitzgerald will attract other star athletes to Bloomington.

Currently, the Hoosiers aren’t poised to win a national championship or even a conference title, but the only constant in life is change and over the next few years the landscape of Big 10 football will morph. The conference will begin to look more like the SEC of years past – where every team is packed with so much talent that no one’s safe.

The days of Ohio State strolling through the regular season are over.  There’s no doubt Urban Meyer is one of the best coaches of all time, but his undefeated season and national championship were just as much about Ohio State’s weak schedule as they were about his elite coaching prowess.

As the Big 10 changes he’ll need to be legitimately concerned about games like the one scheduled next year on Sept. 2nd, when he takes his Buckeyes squad to Memorial Stadium.  I’m not making any predictions.  I’m just giving people fair warning – don’t be shocked if Indiana wins and a true freshman, by the name of Bryant Fitzgerald plays a major role in his first of many big victories.
