Heels hook IMG cornerback, Jayden Curry

Jayden Curry, IMG 3 star recruit commits to UNC Tar Heels football

Chapel Hill, NC — Basketball reigns supreme at UNC and that’s not changing anytime soon.  However, that doesn’t mean Tar Heel nation can’t take a moment to give the football team some much-deserved props.  And although the 2019 season may seem too far away to mean anything in the short term, think again.  Because standout defensive back from IMG Academy, Jayden Curry has officially decided to wear Carolina blue.  And IMG is the newest way to spell WIN in the world of football.

Believe it or not, IMG didn’t even have a football team until 2013 – but they work fast.  Since taking the field five seasons ago they’ve compiled an impressive record of 46-3 and they haven’t lost a game in three years.  The IMG Ascenders fly all over the country to play against the best teams in the nation.  As you can imagine, it takes the best to beat the best – so for the last several years IMG has been recruiting the best football players in the world to move to Florida and suit up for the Ascenders.

This is a huge opportunity for UNC to make major improvements to their football program.  The IMG pipeline could be a Field of Dreams for Tar Heel nation – if you build it, they will come.  And if the powers that be at UNC can successfully build a recruiting pipeline with IMG, don’t be surprised to see Tarheel fans as excited in September as they are in March.

Interview with IMG, 3-star cornerback Jayden Curry

Q: What’s the best advice you’ve ever been given and who gave it to you?

A: “I always told by my mom to do your best and focus on yourself and do the important things you need to do so you can do the things you want to do.”

Q: What do you plan on majoring in at UNC?

A: “I have been thinking about majoring somewhere in the psychology or dental field but i really don’t know.I want to find the right major that could set me years after football and that can also take of me and my family.”

Q: If you could play for any NFL team, who would you play for?

A: “If i could play for a NFL team right now it would probably be the the steelers just because thats who i have grew up liking.”

Q: Who’s the best player you’ve ever played against?

A: “The best player i ever played against has to be Khalan Laborn thats at FSU right now.”

Q: What made you choose UNC over all your other offers?

A: “What really made me choose UNC came from enjoying the atmosphere and the feeling i get when i step on campus and living in Carolina when i was younger i’ve always loved the state. Also the coaching staff and players the bond they have no matter the what the record is or what people say the stick together as a family and all look out for each other.”

Q: When I lived in Chapel Hill I used to see former players at Top of the Hill and around Franklin St.  Which famous UNC athletes would you most like to meet?

A: “If I could meet a famous athlete from Carolina it would be Dre Bly. I used to play rec league games and get up early to work out on his turf field.”

Q: There’s a lot of great places to eat in the area, do you already have a favorite resturant?

A: “No I haven’t tried any places in the area yet but on my next visit i will make sure I do.”

FG: “When I first got to Chapel Hill everyone told me Allen & Son was the best BBQ but they’re definitely overrated. It’s all ketchup and vinegar based BBQ. So, don’t buy the hype on that place!

What’s your favorite music to listen to before games?  A lot of the FL players I interview say Kodak, but I know you’re a Virginia native”

A: “Probably a artist from my area named Alondo Jackson.”

Q: What are his best songs?

A: “Bossed or his new song Balee.”

Q: “I’m listening to Bossed now.. I like him.  Its always nice to learn about new artists.”

A: “Yes sir, you’re right.”

Q:  “I’ve interviewed a lot of IMG guys and it seems that your high school has better locker room, weight room, ect. than most elite NCAA programs.  Does IMG have better facilities than most of the colleges you’ve visited?

A: “Not better than UNC facilities to me but they are nice.”

Q: “What other schools were you considering before you committed? Do you have any close 2nd or 3rd choices?

A: “As of right now Carolina is definitely my top but any side schools that i have looked into would be VT, and Texas A&M.”
