It’s only a matter of hours until Michigan State and Ohio State face off in one of the most highly anticipated B1G matchups of the season and for some reason, the Spartan’s key to victory just might be spending the afternoon sitting on the bench.
3 reasons why Michigan State’s head coach, should take a leap of faith on Lombardi.
- In Rocky’s first career start, he not only rose to the occasion by leading the Spartans to victory over Purdue, but he did so by dismantling the Boilermaker’s defense with a whopping 318 yards passing and a pair of touchdowns. Also, a silver lining to his inexperience is Urban Meyer only has 4 quarters of game tape on Lombardi to use as preparation for his defense.
- Brian Lewerke is expected to be a first-round pick in the 2019 NFL draft and by all accounts has a very bright future in front of him. With that being said, he injured his throwing arm against Penn State and is far from %100 healthy. And with a backup QB like Lombardi on the roster, it just feels like playing under these circumstances would be an unnecessary risk.
- Unfortunately, Michigan State has been making the news for all the wrong reasons in 2018 and from a public relations standpoint, this could be exactly what the MSU needs. Rocky Lombardi can easily become a household name before the end of the season if he pulls off a few primetime wins like today’s showdown against Ohio State. Take a look at his interview with FootballGazette.com from when he first committed to the Spartan’s. We touch down on a range of topics from politics, cars, academics and of course – football!
